Chapter 7 - Justice Restored

"Federal Marshals! Drop your weapons and put your hands on your head!" a thunderous voice boomed through a loudspeaker outside, as tactical officers kicked open the front entrance, their automatic weapons trained directly on Marcus and Deputy Vance.

Marcus’s eyes widened in sheer panic. He raised his gun toward the marshals, refusing to accept defeat, but before he could pull the trigger, a flashbang grenade was launched through the shattered door. The explosive burst of light and sound disoriented both men, sending them crashing to the floor.

Tactical officers rushed in, pinning Marcus and Vance to the ground and cuffing them securely.

Lead Marshal James Miller stepped into the foyer, brushing snow off his tactical vest. He looked at Nathan and offered a crisp nod. "Dr. Pierce? Judge Vance alerted us to the situation. Emergency medical vehicles are right behind us."

"My sister is downstairs suffering from severe hypothermia," Nathan said immediately. "She needs immediate transport to the trauma center, but her condition is stabilizing."

"We have an armored medical transport unit outside," Miller assured him. "Marcus Kane, Deputy Vance, and Dr. Thorne are under federal arrest for multi-state kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, financial fraud, and obstruction of justice."

Nathan walked over to Marcus, who was being dragged to his feet by two officers. Marcus glared at Nathan, his lip curling in hatred.

"You ruined everything," Marcus spat out. "You ruined my life!"

Nathan met his gaze with absolute coldness. "You ruined your own life the moment you mistook my sister’s kindness for weakness and my absence for apathy. You will spend the rest of your days behind bars, Marcus. And you will never, ever see my family again."

As the officers hauled Marcus out into the freezing night, Judge Eleanor Vance arrived in the second transport vehicle. She stepped into the mansion, reviewing the recovered files and the handwritten authorization note that Nathan had broadcast earlier.

"This documentation is ironclad, Nathan," Judge Vance said, her hand resting reassuringly on his shoulder. "This evidence will ensure Marcus Kane spends the rest of his life in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole. And the custody orders he forged are officially voided as of this moment."

Nathan let out a long, heavy breath, feeling the crushing weight of seven years finally begin to lift from his chest. "Thank you, Eleanor."

"Go take care of your family, Doctor," she said softly. "The nightmare is over."
