Chapter 10 - The Sun Comes Up

The morning sun broke over the horizon, bathing the front entrance of St. Catherine’s Children’s Hospital in a brilliant, golden light. The air was crisp, fresh, and clear—a stark contrast to the dark, sterile nightmare of the past few days.
Daniel stood by the open passenger door of our car, holding Noah’s baby seat securely in his hands. He was dressed in plain, comfortable clothes, having officially resigned from his toxic, overbearing job the previous evening to start fresh at a local firm that prioritized family above all else.
I walked through the double glass doors of the hospital carrying Noah in my arms. He was wrapped in his favorite soft blanket, wearing his little blue jacket, clutching his small stuffed fox tightly against his chest.
He looked up at the bright blue sky, blinked his large, radiant eyes, and let out a happy, bubbled laugh as a gentle breeze blew past his face.
"Look at that, little guy," Daniel said, walking over and wrapping his arms around both of us. "That's the real world waiting for you."
I rested my head against Daniel's shoulder, feeling the deep, steady beat of his heart. The fear, the suspicion, and the trauma that had threatened to tear our family apart had been burned away, leaving behind a bond that was stronger than ever.
"Are you ready to go home, Noah?" I asked softly, kissing his soft, warm forehead.

Noah slapped his chubby hands together, letting out a loud, joyful giggle that echoed in the quiet morning air.
Daniel smiled, opened the car door, and helped me secure our son into his seat. As we drove away from the hospital, leaving the shadows of St. Catherine’s behind us forever, the sun rose higher in the sky, illuminating the road ahead—a road filled with safety, love, and a bright, beautiful future.
