Chapter 7 - The Final Audit

At 8:55 AM the next morning, a sleek black sedan pulled up and parked across the street from our house in Naperville. Two men in sharp charcoal suits stepped out and walked purposefully up our driveway.

Through the living room window, I recognized them immediately: federal financial investigators from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, accompanied by a local magistrate.

Before they could even reach the front porch to ring the doorbell, I unlocked the front door and pulled it open, holding the encrypted flash drive in my hand.

"Good morning," I said calmly, stepping out onto the porch. "You're looking for Vanguard Holdings' internal financial optimization records regarding the Naperville residential asset, correct?"

The lead investigator, a sharp-eyed woman named Special Agent Diane Miller, stopped dead in her tracks, her hand hovering near her briefcase.

"Mrs. Henderson? How did you—"

"My husband, Nolan Henderson, has been held under corporate duress inside an unauthorized secure compartment built into this residence by Vanguard Holdings executive Richard Vance," I stated clearly, my voice carrying across the quiet morning street. "Inside this flash drive, you will find unedited audio confessions from Mr. Vance detailing how he engineered a false paper trail, forced my husband into hiding as a corporate scapegoat, and falsified remote communications to deceive federal auditors."

Agent Miller stared at me for three seconds, her professional demeanor shifting into razor-sharp alertness. She signaled her partner, then looked back at me.

"Is Mr. Henderson currently inside the residence?"

"He's behind the master bedroom closet wall," I said, stepping aside and gesturing toward the open front door. "Let me show you the way."
