Chapter 7 - Confrontation in the Dark

The breach charge detonated with a deafening CRACK. The steel door flew inward.

I burst through the smoke, night-vision goggles down, weapon raised.

Inside, Evelyn screamed, dropping her phone. Eleanor stood near the back, clutching a shock baton, while Victor Vance stood in the center, holding a sidearm aimed directly at a small, tied-up figure in the corner.

"Lily!" I roared.

"Dad!" Her small voice cried out through her gag. She was bound to a chair, terrified, but her eyes lit up the moment she recognized my tactical frame.

"Move an inch and I paint the wall with her!" Vance shouted, grabbing Lily by her collar and pulling her up as a human shield.

Evelyn scrambled backward against the wall, her face pale with terror. "David! Please! They made me do it! Eleanor made me do it!"

"Shut up, Evelyn!" Eleanor shrieked. "He's one man! Shoot him, Victor!"

I didn't flinch. I kept my laser sight fixed squarely on Vance’s forehead, unmoving, steady as granite.

"You made a mistake, Vance," I said, my voice echoing with dead calm inside the steel box. "You thought you were dealing with a retired agent. You forgot why they called me the Phantom of Delta."

Before Vance could pull the trigger, a high-caliber round smashed through the container's reinforced roof skylight. Sarah’s sniper bullet struck Vance’s armed hand with surgical precision, shattering his gun into pieces.

Vance howled in pain, stumbling back.

I closed the distance in a split second, disarming him entirely, knocking him unconscious with a bone-shattering strike, and pinning Eleanor to the floor before she could even activate her weapon.
