Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden-orange glow across our new backyard, the guests drifted toward the patio chairs and fire pit, chatting and laughing under the canopy of stars.

I slipped away for a quiet moment, stepping onto the wraparound front porch and leaning against the wooden railing. The neighborhood was peaceful, alive with the gentle chirping of crickets and the soft rustle of evening wind through the oak trees.

Footsteps echoed softly behind me, and a familiar warmth enveloped my shoulders as Nate draped a soft knitted cardigan over my back. He stepped up beside me, resting his hands on the railing next to mine.

"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Vance?" he asked softly, turning his head to look at me with those steady, loving eyes that had anchored me through the worst storm of my life.

I leaned my head against his shoulder, watching the fireflies dance across the darkening lawn.

"I was just thinking about how grateful I am," I murmured, sliding my hand into his. "For everything. Even the hard parts."

Nate chuckled softly, intertwining his fingers tightly with mine. "Turns out, getting your best friend out of your life was the best wedding gift you could have ever received."

"She thought she was destroying our wedding," I smiled, looking up at him. "She had no idea she was just clearing the stage for our real life to begin."

Nate leaned down, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss to my lips as the fairy lights above us twinkled in the night air.

We stood there together in the quiet peace of our home, completely surrounded by truth, love, and a future that belonged entirely to us. And as the story of that chaotic wedding night faded into nothing more than a distant, conquered memory, our real fairy tale was just getting started.
