Chapter 10 - A New Dawn and a Happy Ending
Three months have passed since that terrifying night.
Julian Vance was denied bail and is currently awaiting trial in a maximum-security psychiatric facility, facing a multitude of federal charges including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and stalking. The hidden tunnels and underground bunker have been completely sealed, filled with industrial-grade concrete by structural engineers to ensure nothing of that dark history remains beneath our feet.
Chloe has been happily reunited with her extended family, and she visits us often. She and Emma formed an instant bond—two sisters of the house, in a way, though separated by years. Chloe finally has her life back, and her smile is brighter than ever.
As for Emma, her nightmares stopped completely after Vance was arrested. We bought her a brand-new, bigger bed—one that doesn't need to be pulled by cables, and one that rests firmly in the center of a safe, bright bedroom with no secrets hidden in the walls.
Tonight, I walked up the stairs at 2:03 a.m., not out of fear, but out of habit.

I pushed Emma’s bedroom door open just a crack. The room was bathed in the soft, warm glow of a star-shaped nightlight. Emma was sound asleep, sprawled out comfortably across the center of her mattress, taking up every single inch of space without a care in the world.
I smiled, whispered a quiet goodnight, and closed the door softly behind me, knowing that finally, the house was truly ours, and the night was safe.
