Chapter 7 - Shattered Alliances

News of Lorraine’s arrest broke across local media by afternoon. The prominent interior designer, known for her high-society charity events, was now splashed across the news in a bright orange jumpsuit.
Mark met me at a quiet coffee shop near his attorney's office. He looked hollow, the dark circles under his eyes revealing a sleepless night.
"I saw the evidence, Sarah," he said, his voice barely audible. "The police showed me the server footage... and the forged documents she created about you. She made me believe you were slipping, Sarah. She fed me small lies for months, making me question your parenting."
"And you let her," I said firmly, holding his gaze. "You trusted her words over the mother of your child."
Mark buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking. "I know. God, I know. I was so angry about the divorce that I let my spite blind me. When she called me yesterday, I was so ready to blame you... I almost destroyed our daughter's life."
"You need to make this right, Mark," I said softly, though without anger. "Not for me, but for Emma. She needs a father who protects her, not one who listens to whispers."
Mark nodded vigorously, wiping tears from his eyes. "I spoke to my lawyer this morning. I’m dropping all custody disputes. I want you to have full physical and legal custody, Sarah. I just want supervised visitation—whatever you decide is safe—until Emma trusts me again. I’ll pay whatever child support is needed, and I’m paying for Emma’s therapy."

He pulled out a signed legal document and pushed it across the table. It was a formal waiver relinquish heavy custody claims, handing full decision-making power back to me.
For the first time in a year, the heavy iron weight on my chest lifted. The manipulation that had torn our family apart was finally undone.
