Chapter 10 - A PROMISE KEPT FOREVER

Ten years later.
The grand ballroom of the Thompson Towers downtown was glittering under thousands of crystal chandeliers. Dignitaries, corporate leaders, philanthropists, and close friends had gathered to celebrate a historic milestone: the eighteenth birthday and official corporate induction of Grace Thompson into the board of directors of Thompson Global Enterprises, as well as the launch of the Grace Foundation, a multi-billion-dollar global initiative dedicated to housing, educating, and protecting orphaned children worldwide.
At eighteen, Grace was stunning, poised, and radiating a quiet confidence that commanded the room. But tonight, she wasn't thinking about boardrooms or global philanthropy.
She stood backstage in a breathtaking floor-length emerald gown, her blonde hair swept up elegantly, holding a small, worn, remarkably battered teddy bear with a faded pink ribbon around its neck.
A heavy knock sounded at the door, and Marcus stepped inside. At fifty-one, with silver threading through his dark hair, he looked every bit the powerful billionaire patriarch, but when he looked at Grace, his eyes softened with the exact same unconditional love he had felt in the diner ten years ago.
He walked over, adjusted the collar of her dress with a gentle hand, and smiled. "Are you ready, Madam Director?"
Grace smiled back, her blue eyes shining with unshed tears. She reached out and handed him a small, framed piece of paper—the wobbly crayon drawing from a decade ago, bearing the words MY HERO MARCUS.
"I wanted to make sure you had this before we went out there," Grace said softly. "To remind you where we started."
Marcus looked down at the frame, his throat tightening. He pulled her into a tight, fierce embrace, resting his chin on the top of her head.
"I never forgot, sweetheart," Marcus whispered. "You saved me just as much as I saved you."

Hand in hand, father and daughter turned toward the heavy double doors as the announcer's voice echoed through the grand hall: “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the founder of the Grace Foundation and the heart of Thompson Global, Miss Grace Thompson, and her father, Marcus Thompson.”
The doors swung open to a standing ovation that shook the room. As they walked out into the brilliant light together, neither of them looked back at the shadows of the past—because their future was brighter than the stars.
