Chapter 9 - A Legacy Restored

They named him Alexander Rourke—a name meaning defender of mankind.

Two days later, Sebastian brought Grace and little Alexander home to the Lake Forest estate. The nursery, which Sebastian had personally spent weeks designing, was filled with soft cream furniture, hand-painted murals of gentle forests, and a crib carved from solid mahogany.

On their first evening back home, as Alexander slept peacefully in his crib, Sebastian asked Grace to join him in his study down the hall.

Grace walked into the warm, firelit room, wearing a comfortable silk robe. Sebastian was standing by his desk, looking handsome and relaxed in a simple dark sweater.

“Is everything okay?” Grace asked.

“Everything is perfect,” Sebastian replied softly. He walked over to her and held out a velvet box and a stack of legal documents.

Grace took the documents first. They were legal papers officially transferring fifty percent of all Rourke family holdings, real estate, and global assets into an irrevocable trust under the sole name of Alexander Rourke, with Grace appointed as the primary trustee.

“Sebastian…” Grace gasped, looking up at him. “This is billions of dollars. You don't have to do this—”

“I want to,” Sebastian interrupted gently, taking her hands in his. “Alexander is my heir. Everything I built, everything I own, belongs to him and to you. It guarantees that no matter what ever happens in this world, you and our son will be protected forever.”

Then, Sebastian opened the small velvet box. Inside lay a breathtaking engagement ring—a flawless five-carat oval diamond set in a delicate platinum band.

Sebastian took a deep breath and sank down onto one knee before her.

“Grace,” he said, his dark eyes shining with deep, unwavering devotion. “Ten months ago, I was a broken, cynical man who believed love was a weakness used to trap people. You showed me that love is the only thing that makes life worth living. You saved my soul, Grace. You gave me a family I never believed I was allowed to have.”

He took her hand, his thumb gently stroking her knuckles.

“I don't want to just be Alexander’s father,” Sebastian whispered, his voice full of emotion. “I want to be your husband. I want to build a life of peace, truth, and devotion with you. Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”

Grace looked down at the man who had once torn her ultrasound in half—the man who had walked through fire, confronted his past, and transformed himself completely to earn her trust back.

Tears of pure happiness welled in her eyes. She smiled, a radiant, beautiful smile that lit up the entire room.

“Yes,” Grace whispered, leaning down to wrap her arms around his neck. “Yes, Sebastian. I will marry you.”

Sebastian stood up, pulled her tightly into his arms, and kissed her—a deep, passionate, reverent kiss that sealed the promise of their new beginning.
