Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

The sun dipped low below the horizon, painting the Ohio sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep rose. The evening air carried the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and freshly cut grass, a stark and beautiful contrast to the sterile, artificial lavender of the past.
We had gathered in the backyard—Lily, Sarah, and I—surrounding a small patio table laden with treats, fairy lights strung overhead casting a warm, magical glow across the grass.
Lily ran across the lawn chasing a firefly, her laughter ringing out pure and untbothered into the twilight. She cupped her hands gently around the glowing insect for a brief second before opening her palms wide, watching with wide-eyed wonder as it lifted off into the night sky, completely free.
Sarah and I watched her from the porch, our hands resting side by side on the wooden table.
"She wants to go to art camp this summer," Sarah said softly, a note of quiet pride in her voice. "She drew a picture yesterday of us, all three of us, standing under a big rainbow. No cages. No walls. Just sunshine."
"That sounds like the best possible future," I agreed, squeezing Sarah's hand affectionately.
Lily bounded back toward us, breathless and smiling from ear to ear, her eyes sparkling with the unburdened joy of childhood restored. She threw her arms around both of us, pulling us into a warm, unbreakable group hug.
"I love you guys," Lily whispered happily into the evening breeze.

"We love you more than anything in the world, sweet girl," Sarah and I replied in unison.
The dark chapter of our lives was firmly closed, replaced by a future filled with safety, laughter, and endless love. We had walked through the terror and emerged into the light, together, safe, and truly home.
