Chapter 10 - Bright Horizons (Happy Ending)
On Sophie’s seventh birthday, our backyard was filled with colorful balloons, music, and the joyful screams of children playing tag.
Sophie wore a bright yellow dress, her hair decorated with a flower crown. She was no longer the trembling, terrified little girl who hid in front of police officers two years ago. She was confident, kind, creative, and deeply loved.
As she blew out the seven candles on her strawberry cake, the entire yard erupted into cheers and applause.
She ran over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist and giving me a huge hug.
“What did you wish for, sweetie?” I asked, smoothing back her hair.
“I didn't wish for anything, Mommy,” she said, beaming up at me with clear, bright eyes. “I already have everything I ever wanted.”
