Chapter 10 - The Forever Home

The wedding was nothing like the grandiose, cold social affair that Elena had once attempted to engineer. It was an intimate, sun-drenched ceremony held out in the sprawling garden behind our estate, surrounded only by the people who truly mattered.
There were no corporate rivals, no fake socialites, and no hidden agendas. Just the rustle of autumn leaves in the breeze, the vibrant colors of Marina's favorite flowers blooming along the pathways, and the bright, uncontained laughter of two young girls running across the lawn.
Valeria stood proudly as the maid of honor, wearing a delicate silver bracelet that had once belonged to her mother, her eyes shining with absolute joy. Sofía served as the flower girl, scattering white petals along the stone walkway with an infectious grin that stretched from ear to ear.
As I stood at the altar waiting, watching Camila walk down the garden path on Tomás’s arm — since Tomás had proudly accepted the role of family escort and groomsman — I realized that grief no longer defined the walls of this house. Loss had shaped our beginning, but love, loyalty, and resilience had written our ending.
Camila reached the altar, her eyes locking onto mine with a warmth that made every past hardship fade into insignificance.
"You look breathtaking," I whispered as she stepped up beside me.
"And you look like a man who finally got his priorities straight," she teased softly, her smile radiant.
The vows were simple, honest, and profound — spoken not out of obligation or design, but from years of shared survival, quiet devotion, and unconditional care. When the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, the applause that erupted from the small gathering was drowned out by Sofía and Valeria cheering at the top of their lungs and running forward to embrace us both in a chaotic, tangled group hug.
Later that evening, as the stars stretched across the clear night sky and soft music drifted from the patio, I stood by the second-floor balcony with my arm wrapped securely around Camila's waist, looking out over the illuminated gardens.
Inside the house, our daughters were fast asleep in their rooms, safe, cherished, and surrounded by a love that no shadow could ever touch again.

"We made it," Camila murmured, resting her head gently against my shoulder.
"We did," I agreed, looking down at the gold band shining on her finger. "We're finally home."
