Chapter 10 - The Moon Traveler’s Return

The morning sun rose over New York with a brilliant, golden warmth, casting long, peaceful shadows across the manicured lawns of the Vance estate.
Inside the nursery, the soft, rhythmic patter of little feet signaled the start of a brand-new day.
I sat at the head of the kitchen island, reviewing a simple schedule for the afternoon—not a tactical briefing, not a corporate merger, but a trip to the Central Park zoo with Claire and Lily, followed by a baking lesson with Hannah.
Footsteps approached down the hallway, light, steady, and entirely unafraid.
Claire bounded into the kitchen, her little face lit up with a triumphant grin, her legs carrying her forward with complete confidence. Behind her walked Lily, and right beside them, matching their pace with a calm, supportive smile, was Hannah.
"Daddy! Look!" Claire cheered, running straight into my arms as I dropped to my knees to catch her. She threw her arms around my neck, giggling as I lifted her high into the air. "I didn't even need to hold the table today! I walked all by myself from my bed straight to the kitchen!"
"I saw that, my little moon traveler," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion as I pressed a kiss to her forehead. "You're getting closer to the stars every single day."
Claire beamed, then turned her bright eyes toward Hannah, who stood leaning against the kitchen counter with a warm, radiant smile. "Hannah says today we're going to build a real telescope so we can see the moon up close!"
"Only if the spacecraft is fully inspected and cleared for launch first," Hannah joked, stepping forward to hand me a fresh cup of coffee.

As our fingers brushed against the ceramic mug, I looked up into her eyes. There were no secrets left between us, no walls, no armed guards, and no terrifying criminal empires waiting in the dark. There was only the bright, beautiful horizon of a family stitched together by grace, resilience, and love.
I wrapped my arm around Claire, pulling Hannah gently into our circle as the morning sunlight flooded the kitchen, illuminating every corner of a home that had finally found its true north.
