Chapter 8 - A New Dawn at Harbor & Ash

The following Monday morning, the atmosphere in the main kitchen of Harbor & Ash was entirely transformed.

Chef Armand was whistling as he prepped fresh herbs, while a brand-new assistant manager—a warm, empathetic woman named Sarah who specialized in human resources and employee support—was organizing the shift schedules.

Brielle walked through the delivery entrance holding Elodie’s hand as the little girl took her very first wobbly steps across the newly polished tile floor.

Resting in Brielle’s purse was a formal document signed by Everett Calloway’s legal team: a permanent employee childcare stipend, a promotion to floor supervisor with a significant pay raise, and a fully funded legal retainer to handle Marcus’s custody threats once and for all, ensuring that no ex-husband or predatory relative would ever threaten her peace again.

As Brielle stepped into the service hallway, she looked toward the dark wooden door leading down to the lower level. It remained closed, as always, keeping the private office secluded from the rest of the world.

But this time, the door didn't feel forbidden. It felt like a shield.

Through the glass windows of the restaurant, the Seattle morning sun broke through the gray clouds, bathing the dining room in a warm, golden light. Elodie giggled, clapping her tiny hands together as she pointed toward the sunshine.

May you like

Brielle smiled, lifting her daughter into her arms and holding her close. For the first time in months, the future didn't look like a series of terrifying choices between bad and worse.

It looked like safety. It looked like hope. And most of all, it looked like home.
