Chapter 6 - Dismantling the Empire

While Emily and Sophia spent the next few weeks reclaiming their lives—baking cookies in the kitchen, planting flowers in the backyard, and laughing without looking over their shoulders—David was busy systematically dismantling what remained of Ryan’s fraudulent corporate empire.
Sitting in his private study surrounded by glowing monitors, David coordinated with federal prosecutors, bankruptcy trustees, and forensic accountants to ensure that every single asset Ryan had illegally acquired was seized, liquidated, and returned to its rightful owners—most notably, Emily.
The penthouse at the Zenith Tower had been seized by the federal government and placed into receivership. Through a court-ordered restitution settlement, the ownership of the luxury property, along with all of Ryan’s remaining liquid assets, stocks, and hidden offshore accounts, was transferred directly into a protected trust bearing Emily’s name.
Two weeks later, David received a secure video call request from the federal penitentiary holding facility. It was Ryan.
David clicked accept on his encrypted monitor. The screen flickered, revealing Ryan sitting behind a thick glass partition in an orange jumpsuit. His perfectly styled hair was gone, his face was hollow, and the arrogant smirk that had once defined him had been replaced by a mask of bitter, unmitigated defeat.
“Are you happy now?” Ryan snarled, his voice raspy and desperate as he leaned toward the intercom speaker. “You destroyed everything I worked for! My career, my assets, my freedom! I’m facing thirty years!”
David leaned back in his leather desk chair, expressionless, staring coldly at the man who had tried to destroy his daughter.
“You didn't build anything, Ryan,” David said calmly, his voice steady and icy. “You stole it. You built a house of cards on lies, cruelty, and narcissism. You thought you could treat people like disposable objects because you had money and power. You forgot one fundamental rule of life: karma moves slowly, but when it catches up, it doesn't leave survivors.”
“I’ll get out of this!” Ryan shouted, slamming his fist against the metal table inside the booth. “My lawyers are filing motions—!”
“Your lawyers dropped you yesterday when they realized your retainers were paid with embezzled funds,” David interrupted coldly. “And the federal prosecutor has a rock-solid case with over five thousand pages of forensic evidence that I personally compiled. You aren't getting out, Ryan. You’re going to spend the best years of your life staring at concrete walls, wondering where your arrogance got you.”

Ryan opened his mouth to scream another threat, but the prison guard firmly placed a hand on his shoulder and cut the intercom feed, dragging the broken executive back to his cell.
David clicked off the monitor, closed his laptop, and locked the secure files away in his biometric safe. Justice had been served.
