Chapter 8 - The Final Showdown

The peace of the estate was short-lived. By noon the following day, the final confrontation had arrived.

Matteo had spent the morning in his command center, coordinating with international authorities and his private security forces. Using the intelligence gathered from the captured intruder, he had launched a ruthless, coordinated strike against Don Carmine Valenti's remaining assets, freezing accounts, seizing shipments, and exposing decades of corruption to federal prosecutors.

Valenti, cornered and desperate, made one final, fatal mistake: he came to the Rossi estate himself, leading a convoy of five armored SUVs to demand a truce—or a massacre.

From the high-bulletproof glass of the second-floor study, Nia watched as the heavy iron gates of the estate were breached. Below, dozens of armed men poured into the courtyard.

"Stay upstairs with Leo, Nia," Elena said, adjusting her tactical vest and checking her sidearm. "The glass is reinforced. Nothing gets through."

"Be careful out there," Nia said, holding Leo tightly against her shoulder.

"Don't worry," Elena smiled tightly. "The Boss has been waiting four years for this afternoon."

Below, the heavy courtyard fell dead silent. Carmine Valenti—an aging, cruel man in a pinstriped suit—stepped out of his vehicle, flanked by bodyguards. "Matteo!" he shouted, his voice amplified by a megaphone. "Come out! Let us settle this like gentlemen, or I turn this palace into a graveyard!"

The front doors of the mansion slowly swung open.

Matteo walked out alone. He wore no body armor, no helmet—just a bespoke charcoal suit, his arms relaxed at his sides. Behind him, emerging slowly from the shadows, was Thor. The giant Cane Corso walked with a slight limp, but his head was held high, a terrifying low growl rumbling deep in his chest.

"Carmine," Matteo said, his calm voice echoing through the courtyard with chilling authority. "You are trespassing."

"You took everything from me today, Rossi!" Valenti spat, raising a pistol. "My empire, my money! I'm taking your life!"

"You took my family four years ago, Carmine," Matteo replied quietly. "Today, I am simply collecting the debt."

Matteo didn't draw a gun. He raised his right hand and snapped his fingers.

From the perimeter walls, dozens of red laser sights instantly painted Carmine Valenti and his men. Federal agents and private tactical operators, led by federal marshals, swarmed over the walls with blinding speed. Flashbang grenades exploded—BANG! BANG!—blinding and deafening the attackers.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" a loudspeaker boomed.

Panic erupted among Valenti's men. Weapons were dropped to the stone driveway as men fell to their knees with their hands behind their heads. Carmine Valenti attempted to raise his gun toward Matteo, but Thor launched himself forward, knocking the old mob boss to the pavement and pinning him beneath a pair of massive, crushing paws.

Matteo walked over slowly, standing over his family's murderer. He looked down into the terrified eyes of the man who had haunted his dreams for half a decade.

"It's over, Carmine," Matteo said softly.

He pulled a small silver rattle from his pocket—the one Thor had recovered—and dropped it onto Valenti's chest. "That is from Lorenzo."

Federal agents rushed in, cuffing Valenti and hauling him away. As the sirens wailed in the distance, signals of an empire finally brought down, Matteo turned toward the mansion. He looked up at the second-floor window, where Nia was watching.

He smiled—a real, genuine smile that lit up his handsome face—and beckoned her down.
