Chapter 9 - The Family Grows

Three years later.
The Tuscan sun was setting, casting long, golden shadows across the stone patio of the villa.
The quiet evening air was filled with the sounds of classical music playing softly from indoor speakers, the clinking of dinner plates, and the joyous sounds of a growing family.
Noah, now five years old, was sitting on the grass, carefully showing his little three-year-old sister, Mia, how to build a tall tower out of wooden blocks. Mia had Emily’s bright hazel eyes and Gabriel’s dark, wavy hair, and she adored her big brother.
"Look, Mia! Like this, so it doesn't fall down!" Noah explained with great seriousness.
"Big tower!" Mia cheered, clapping her tiny hands.
From the patio table, Gabriel and Emily sat holding hands, enjoying a quiet moment while dinner was being prepared inside.
Gabriel looked at his son and daughter, then turned to look at Emily. Her face was radiant, her belly slightly rounded under a soft floral dress. They were expecting their third child in four months.
"Three kids," Gabriel chuckled softly, shaking his head with a incredulous smile. "If you had told me five years ago that I would be living in Italy, building block towers and managing a health foundation, I would have thought you were insane."
"And if you had told me five years ago that the terrifying Gabriel Moretti would turn out to be the gentlest father on earth, I would have agreed with you," Emily teased, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
Gabriel caught her chin, turning her face so he could kiss her lips deeply. "I was a dead man walking before you called me that night, Emily. You and Noah saved my life long before I saved his."
"We saved each other," Emily corrected softly.
Julian stepped out onto the patio, carrying a tray with fresh pasta and Italian wine. He had long since ceased being just a lieutenant; he was a beloved part of the family, an uncle to the children, and the chief manager of their estate's security and charitable operations.
"Dinner is served, Mrs. Moretti," Julian said with a warm smile. "And I believe the young master is demanding his gelato early."
"No gelato before pasta!" Emily called out toward the lawn.

"Aw, Mom!" Noah groaned, but he dutifully took his little sister's hand and helped her walk up the stone steps to the table.
Gabriel stood up, lifting little Mia onto his lap while Noah climbed into his chair beside Emily. They bowed their heads for a brief moment of quiet gratitude before filling the air with laughter, conversation, and the rich warmth of a truly united family.
