Chapter 8 - A New Dawn at the Carter Estate

The transition from house manager to James’s partner was seamless, entirely because the children refused to have it any other way. The moment Emily and Ethan found out that Sophia was staying permanently, they threw an impromptu celebration that involved throwing confetti made from old colored paper all over the living room. James, true to his new outlook on life, didn't care about the mess at all.
James officially introduced Sophia to his corporate board and social circles at the annual Carter Hotels Gala.
Many of the elite guests expected a timid, out-of-place woman, knowing her background as part of the domestic staff. However, Sophia walked into the grand ballroom wearing a stunning, elegant emerald green gown, her posture regal, her confidence unshakable. She held James’s arm not as someone clinging for security, but as an absolute equal.
When a snobbish socialite tried to make a passive-aggressive comment about "household staff moving up in the world," Sophia simply smiled warmly.
"Care, dedication, and attention to detail are required to manage a home successfully," Sophia replied elegantly. "I find those same qualities are exactly what keeps a family—and a business—thriving. Wouldn't you agree?"
James, standing beside her, couldn't help but beam with pride. The socialite quickly excused herself.
Later that evening, away from the crowd on a quiet balcony overlooking the city lights, James pulled Sophia close, his arms wrapping around her waist.
"You were magnificent tonight," he whispered against her hair.

"I had a great teacher," she replied, looking up at him. "Though I think I still prefer the kitchen full of flour over a ballroom full of diamonds."
"So do I," James agreed, before leaning down to press a tender, passionate kiss to her lips, sealing their promise for a shared future.
