Chapter 8 - The Conspiracy Unmasked

While peace and recovery finally blossomed inside the Roth estate, a storm was brewing in the corporate and social circles outside.

Elena Vance was furious. The news of Dr. Sterling’s revised neurological report had leaked through medical circles, humiliating the prominent neurologist and making Elena look like a foolish, overbearing aunt. Convinced that Rachel was a sophisticated con artist practicing unauthorized medicine, Elena hired a private investigator to dig into Rachel’s past.

Two days after Evan discovered Rachel’s true identity, Elena marched uninvited into Evan’s corporate headquarters downtown, bypassing security with her familiar socialite privilege and storming straight into the executive boardroom where Evan was mid-meeting.

“Evan! Stop this board meeting right now!” Elena demanded, slamming a thick manila folder onto the polished glass conference table.

Evan raised a hand, signaling his senior executives to pause. He looked at Elena with cold, unyielding eyes. “Elena, if you ever interrupt my meetings again, security will escort you out of this building. State your business and leave.”

“My business is saving your family from financial and criminal ruin!” Elena shouted, opening the folder and tossing glossy printed pages across the table. “Look at these documents! Your precious housekeeper isn't a domestic worker at all! Her name is Dr. Rachel Monroe—a disgraced researcher fired from Johns Hopkins for practicing unapproved experimental nerve therapies!”

The board members murmured anxiously, glancing between Evan and the scattered documents.

Evan didn't even look down at the papers. He closed his folder slowly, locking his gaze onto Elena. “I already know.”

Elena blinked, thrown off balance. “You… you know? And you’re still keeping her in your house with your children? Evan, she’s manipulating you! She’s using your sons as guinea pigs for her rogue research project to relaunch her discredited career!”

“She isn't using anyone, Elena,” Evan said, standing up from his leather chair with an imposing authority that commanded total silence in the room. “She cured my sons when your brilliant Dr. Sterling said they would never walk again. While you were busy worrying about social appearances and medical prestige, Rachel gave my boys their lives back.”

Before Elena could retort, the boardroom doors opened again.

To everyone’s surprise, Dr. Sterling walked in, accompanied by two federal medical ethics investigators and—to Elena’s utter shock—Aaron and Simon, who were walking hand-in-hand with Rachel, stepping steadily across the boardroom carpet.

Dr. Sterling stepped forward, holding out a hand toward Evan. “Mr. Roth, please forgive this intrusion. After reviewing the comprehensive somatic telemetry logs provided by Dr. Monroe, our institutional review board has formally evaluated her methodology. We were wrong. Her non-invasive neural integration protocol is not rogue experimentation—it is a revolutionary breakthrough in pediatric neuro-rehabilitation.”

The investigators nodded in agreement, one of them stepping forward to address the board. “In fact, Mr. Roth, the Department of Health is looking to partner with Dr. Monroe to implement her recovery protocol across major pediatric hospitals nationwide.”

Elena stared in absolute horror as she realized her crusade to discredit Rachel had completely backfired, exposing her own malicious interference and validating Rachel’s brilliance on a national stage.

“Get out, Elena,” Evan said quietly, pointing toward the boardroom exit. “And don't ever come back to my home or my company.”

Defeated and humiliated, Elena grabbed her folder and fled the boardroom without uttering another word.
