Chapter 8 - A New Legacy

The autumn leaves outside the grand bay windows of Evelyn’s Beacon Hill townhouse were turning a fiery shade of crimson and gold. It was Thanksgiving day—the first truly unified Thanksgiving the Whitmore family had experienced in over three generations.
There were no whispers behind hands. There were no calculating glances measuring the cost of someone's dress or the pedigree of their family name.

Melissa stood up, lifting a crystal glass of sparkling cider.
"Before we carve the turkey," Melissa said, looking directly across the table at me, "I want to propose a toast. To Amanda. Thank you for teaching us what family actually means."
Everyone raised their glasses.
"To family," Daniel echoed, smiling warmly at me.
