Chapter 8 - Turning the Tide

"I’m not a dam, Marcus," Sarah said, her voice echoing in the concrete alleyway. "I’m the flood."

Before Marcus could order his men to fire, Hale stepped out from behind the Port Authority truck. She wasn't holding her pistol. Instead, she was holding her supervisor's tactical radio, flipped to the emergency broadcast frequency that connected directly to the Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security's regional command center.

"This is Officer Rebecca Hale, badge number 7742," she spoke clearly into the mic. "I am currently at the Wall Street corridor with the primary targets of the JFK airport attack. We have corporate executive Marcus Vance in custody... or rather, he is currently cornered at our location. The cryptographic files detailing the illegal transport of weapons grade material on the vessel The Shadow Falcon are currently broadcasting to the federal grid."

Marcus’s face transformed from corporate arrogance to pure, unadulterated panic. "What did you say?"

Sarah held up her phone. She hadn't been entering a voice command to unlock the ledger for his enforcer; she had used the office's open network to trigger the automated whistleblower protocol she had built into the Caldera system before she left. The moment her thumb touched the scanner—even without the completion of the sequence—it acted as a dead-man's switch.

The encrypted ledger wasn't being downloaded to a Cayman server. It was being uploaded to every major federal enforcement agency in the United States.

"The ghost fleet just went visible, Marcus," Sarah said, a small, cold smile appearing on her face. "Every satellite from here to the Persian Gulf is currently locking onto your ships."

The sound of distant, thudding rotors began to shake the glass of the surrounding skyscrapers. Not the sirens of local police, but the heavy, rhythmic thrum of military-grade helicopters.

Two MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters marked with the insignia of the United States Coast Guard and Homeland Security swept over the harbor, their searchlights slicing through the dusk to illuminate the alleyway like midday.

Marcus looked up, the blinding light reflecting off his pale forehead. He slammed the window up, shouting at his driver to reverse, but the alleyway was already blocked by three unmarked federal SUVs that had skidded into position, their doors flying open as heavily armed agents clad in tactical gear spilled out.

"Federal agents! Get out of the vehicle! Hands on your heads!"
