Lucas sat beside Lily in the sunlit garden at Lake Shore Drive, holding the handwritten letter. "Lily," he said gently, "your mother left a letter for us. Would you like me to read it to you?"
Lily nodded eagerly, resting her head against Lucas’s arm as he broke the wax seal and began to read aloud:
"If you are reading this, it means I am no longer there to hold my sweet Lily’s hand. I knew when I uncovered the corruption at the bank that my time might be short, but I put everything I had into securing my daughter's future. To the person standing by her side right now: thank you for seeing my little girl. Thank you for listening when the world tried to ignore her. Teach her to be brave, teach her to be kind, and remind her every day that her mother’s love is woven into every breath she takes."

Tears rolled down Lily’s cheeks, but they were no longer tears of fear or loneliness; they were tears of deep healing. She looked up at Lucas, her small hand reaching out to squeeze his. "She knew you would come, Mr. Lucas."
"She did," Lucas whispered, his own heart softening in a way he had never thought possible. "And I promise you, Lily, I will never leave."
