Chapter 10 - A Legacy Written in Love

Ten years passed. Chicago had changed, but the bond forged in the marble lobby of Hancock Meridian Trust remained unbreakable.
On a crisp autumn afternoon, seventeen-year-old Lily Bennett stood on the balcony of the Lake Shore Drive estate, looking out over the sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan. She was about to leave for Harvard University to study medicine and international law, carrying forward her mother's passion for healing and Lucas's passion for justice.
Lucas stepped out onto the balcony, his hair touched with distinguished silver at the temples, but his eyes as sharp and proud as ever. He wrapped a soft cashmere shawl around Lily’s shoulders.
"You're ready," Lucas said softly, a proud smile touching his lips.
"I'm only ready because of you, Dad," Lily said softly. It was a word she had come to use naturally over the years—a word that filled Lucas’s heart with a depth of joy no corporate victory could ever match.
They walked down to the main hall together, where a large framed photograph of Hannah Bennett hung in a place of honor above the hearth. In the photo, Hannah was smiling brightly under the summer sun, her eyes full of warmth and peace.
Lily took out the black card—now decommissioned and encased in a clear acrylic frame as a symbol of triumph—and looked at it one last time before placing it on the mantle.
"What was left on the card, Dad?" Lily asked with a gentle smile, echoing the question she had asked as a seven-year-old girl in muddy sneakers.

Lucas pulled her into a warm, fatherly embrace, looking at the bright future stretching out before them.
"Everything, Lily," Lucas answered softly. "Everything that mattered."
