Chapter 9 - The Circle of Healing

Six months later.
The spring air was filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and fresh green grass. On a quiet, sunlit hill overlooking the valley, a beautiful white pavilion had been decorated with ribbons and flowers.
It was the baptism and dedication ceremony for baby Rowan.
Dozens of people gathered under the sunshine—family members, hospital staff, deputies, and friends. Sarah Vance stood near the altar, holding her grandson, her face glowing with a peace that had been absent for nearly twenty years.
Chloe walked down the grass path toward the pavilion. She wore a simple, light blue dress. Her hair fell down her back in soft waves, and her smile was brilliant, radiant, and completely free of the shadows that had once consumed her life. She was taking college courses now, studying child psychology, determined to use her life to heal others.
Rowan, Dax, and Kira stood near the front row, dressed in their formal dress uniforms.
When the minister stepped forward, he smiled at the congregation. "Today, we celebrate not just a new life, but the restoration of what was lost. We honor the power of hope, the courage of a mother, and the selflessness of those who answer the call when darkness falls."
The minister turned to the crowd. "I call forward the godparents of young Rowan."
Rowan and Dax exchanged a surprised look. Chloe smiled at them from the altar, nodding encouragingly.
Rowan stepped forward, her heart swelling with emotion, with Dax limping proudly beside her. They stood on either side of Chloe and baby Rowan.
Chloe reached out, taking Rowan’s hand in hers. "Six months ago, I was trapped in the dark, believing nobody was coming," Chloe said, her voice clear and strong across the gathering. "You came into that room, Rowan. You looked at me not as a case, but as a person worth saving. You gave my son his first breath. I want him to grow up knowing that the world is filled with heroes like you."
Rowan bowed her head, holding Chloe’s hand tight. "It was the honor of my life, Chloe."

The minister placed his hand gently on the baby’s head, pronouncing the blessing of health, love, and protection over the child. The baby let out a cheerful gurgle, reaching up with tiny hands to grab the shiny silver badge on Rowan’s dress uniform chest.
The crowd erupted into warm applause, their cheers echoing across the sunny hills.
