Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of the Syndicate's Enemies

The wedding reception flowed seamlessly from the ceremony into the grand banquet hall, where tables laden with gourmet Italian cuisine, vintage Barolo wine, and crystal glassware glittered beneath candlelight.

Dante kept one hand resting securely against the small of my back as we moved among the guests, accepting congratulations from regional capos and business associates alike.

Suddenly, Marco appeared at Dante’s shoulder, his expression tight and businesslike.

“Boss, we have a situation in the eastern perimeter communications room,” Marco murmured, leaning in close so only we could hear. “The encryption firewall we seized from Gabriella’s private terminal has finished decrypting its deep-storage sectors. There are files regarding external operatives who were feeding information to the Odessa syndicate.”

Dante’s expression darkened instantly. The warmth of the wedding celebration vanished, replaced by the lethal focus of the supreme commander of the underworld.

“Who?” Dante asked coldly.

“Viktor Volkov’s inner circle,” Marco replied, handing him a secure tablet. “They weren't just monitoring our shipping routes. They were planning an ambush on the Queens transport hub scheduled for next Tuesday—the exact route Sophia’s old convenience store was located near.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. “They were watching me even then?”

“It wasn't a coincidence that you collapsed near that specific district, Sophia,” Dante said, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched in his cheek. He looked down at me, his eyes burning with a terrifying promise. “Volkov thought he could chip away at our perimeter by targeting my blind spots. He thought wrong.”

Dante turned to Marco. “Call the strike teams. Wake the captains from Boston and Chicago. If Volkov wants a war, we will bring it directly to his doorstep before midnight.”

“Dante,” I placed my hand gently on his sleeve. “Be careful.”

He looked down at me, the ice in his eyes melting instantly into profound tenderness. He took my hand and kissed my palm.

“I have everything I fought for right here,” Dante whispered. “Nothing—and no one—will ever take this away from us again.”

Within twenty minutes, the festive atmosphere of the reception transitioned into a military-grade command center. While the guests enjoyed dinner, Dante, Marco, and Adrian Romano mapped out the synchronized dismantling of the Odessa syndicate’s New York financial network.
