Chapter 9 - A Ring and a Promise

A year after the fateful storm that brought them together, Adrian planned a special evening. He rented out the beautiful botanical conservatory where they had taken their first official date.
The air inside was warm, smelling of orchids and jasmine, a stark contrast to the chilly autumn evening outside. Noah and Sophie were in on the secret, hiding behind a row of lush ferns with Adrian's smartphone to capture the moment.
Adrian took Maya by the hand, leading her to the center of a stone pavilion illuminated by hundreds of fairy lights.
"One year ago, I was a man who thought money could protect my family from everything," Adrian said, his voice filled with emotion. "But a storm showed me how wrong I was, and a remarkable woman showed me what true strength looks like. Maya, you are my partner, my confidante, and the love of my life."
He dropped to one knee, pulling a velvet box from his pocket. Inside was a stunning, conflict-free diamond ring that caught the light beautifully. "Will you marry me, and let me spend the rest of my life loving you and Sophie?"

Maya gasped, tears spilling over her lashes as she nodded vigorously. "Yes! A thousand times, yes!"
From behind the ferns, Noah and Sophie cheered loudly, running out to wrap their arms around the couple. Adrian stood up, sliding the ring onto Maya's finger, before gathering his newly completed family into a tight embrace.
