Chapter 4 - A New Beginning

The next morning, the storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp, clear Chicago sky. For the first time in months, Noah woke up with color in his cheeks and a hearty appetite. He insisted on having breakfast with Sophie, and the penthouse filled with the unfamiliar, beautiful sound of children's laughter.

Adrian called a meeting with his personal attorney, Marcus, and his head of human resources at Cole Enterprises.

"Maya," Adrian said during breakfast, "I am firing my entire home medical agency. I want to hire you. As Noah’s full-time private nurse."

Maya gasped, dropping her fork. "Adrian, I can’t. My Illinois license isn't active, and I don't have a malpractice insurance bond. It's illegal for me to practice here."

"Marcus is already on it," Adrian smiled. "We are fast-tracking your Illinois endorsement. I am paying for your licensing fees, your insurance, and an advance on your salary. Furthermore, the guest suite is yours for as long as you want. You and Sophie are not going back to the streets."

Maya covered her face with her hands, weeping silently. Sophie wrapped her small arms around her mother's neck. "Does this mean we don't have to sleep in the car anymore, Mommy?"

"No more cars, sweetheart," Adrian said softly, kneeling beside them. "You're safe here."

Over the next month, the penthouse transformed. Maya’s medical expertise was unparalleled; she adjusted Noah’s diet, introduced breathing exercises, and coordinated with his doctors to completely overhaul his treatment plan. Under her care, Noah didn't just maintain his health—he began to thrive.

But the healing wasn't just physical, and it wasn't just for Noah. The cold, sterile penthouse began to feel like a home. Maya brought warmth, and Sophie brought life. Adrian found himself leaving the office earlier and earlier, eager to get home for family dinners.
