Chapter 9 - The First Annual Gala

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the McGregor Manor was filled with light, music, and the low hum of elegant laughter. For the first time in a decade, Arthur McGregor was hosting an event at his estate—the inaugural gala for the Finley McGregor Pediatric Recovery Foundation, a charitable organization created by Arthur and Sarah to provide cutting-edge physical therapy and independent medical evaluations for paralyzed and injured children from low-income families.

Supporters, doctors, and journalists filled the room, but the center of attention was a seven-year-old boy in a small, perfectly tailored tuxedo.

Finley stood near the podium, holding a microphone. He didn't have crutches. He didn't have braces. He stood squarely on his own two feet, dressed like his father, a proud smile on his face.

"Thank you everyone for coming to my party," Finley said into the microphone, his voice echoing clearly through the speaker system. "When I was little, people told me I couldn't walk. But then Sarah came. She showed me that my legs weren't broken—they were just sleeping. And now I can run."

The room erupted into thunderous applause. Tears glistened in the eyes of many guests as Finley walked—not perfectly, but strongly, with a slight, confident stride—over to where Arthur and Sarah were standing beside the stage.

Arthur took the microphone, putting his arm around Finley’s shoulders.

"Six years ago, I thought my life was over," Arthur said, his voice deep and emotion-filled. "I thought love meant protecting my son from the world by hiding him away. I was wrong. Love means giving someone the chance to stand, even when you're terrified they might fall. And I owe everything—my life, my son's future, and the happiness of this home—to one incredible woman."

Arthur turned to look at Sarah, who stood off to the side in an elegant emerald dress, her hands clasped in front of her, trying to suppress her tears.

"Sarah," Arthur said, his eyes locking onto hers with unmistakable devotion. "Come up here."
