Chapter 9 - The Dawn of a New Legacy

Six months later.

The morning sun shone brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the newly established DeLuca Foundation for Neurodiversity, a state-of-the-art center in downtown Chicago dedicated to providing free therapy, sensory-friendly education, and family support for autistic children.

Damian had completely dismantled his former criminal network, liquidating every illicit asset and transferring his vast fortune into public infrastructure, shipping logistics, and philanthropic endeavors. Julian Moretti and his accomplices were serving life sentences in federal prison.

The opening ceremony of the foundation was attended by city leaders, educators, and families from all walks of life.

Standing at the podium, dressed in a sharp navy suit, Damian spoke into the microphone.

"For a long time, I believed that strength meant power, control, and fear," Damian said, his voice echoing warmly through the auditorium. "But a year ago, a remarkable woman showed me what true strength looks like. True strength is patience. It is empathy. It is standing up for a defenseless child when the rest of the world turns its back."

He looked into the front row, where Natalie sat with Ava on her lap. Ava was wearing a bright yellow dress, smiling happily as she held a soft velvet ribbon in her hands.

"I am proud to announce that the director of this foundation will be Natalie Carter," Damian announced as the crowd erupted into enthusiastic applause.

Natalie smiled, her heart full, as she kissed Ava's cheek and stood up to accept the honor.

Later that evening, the celebration moved back to the Lake Forest estate. The gardens were illuminated with soft, warm fairy lights. Ava was fast asleep upstairs, exhausted from a day of playing with other children at the center.

Natalie stood on the back patio, sipping a glass of wine, looking out at the tranquil lake.

Heavy, familiar footsteps sounded behind her. Damian wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.

"You built something incredible today, Damian," Natalie said softly, leaning back against his chest.

"We built it," Damian corrected, kissing her neck gently. "You saved my daughter, Natalie. But you also saved me."

May you like

He slowly turned her around to face him. Under the soft glow of the patio lights, Damian reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box.

Natalie’s breath caught in her throat.
