Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary We Built

Damian opened the box, revealing a stunning ring featuring a radiant blue sapphire surrounded by delicate, brilliant diamonds.
"When you walked into my life, Natalie, I was a man living in darkness, terrified for my daughter's future," Damian said, looking deep into her eyes with pure devotion. "You brought light, love, and healing into this home. You loved my daughter as if she were your own, and you showed me how to be the man she truly deserves."
He dropped to one knee on the stone patio, holding the ring up toward her.
"Natalie Carter, you are my heart, my sanctuary, and my home. Will you marry me and make our family complete?"
Tears of pure happiness overflowed down Natalie's cheeks. She remembered the desperate girl who had $218 in her bank account, terrified of being fired from a retail store. She remembered the terrifying rumors about the man holding the ring.
And now, she saw only the man who loved her beyond measure—the devoted father, the protector, her true love.
"Yes," Natalie whispered, her voice overflowing with joy. "Yes, Damian! A thousand times yes!"
Damian slipped the ring onto her finger, stood up, and pulled her into a passionate, sweeping kiss that lifted her off her feet.
From the second-floor window, a tiny silhouette watched them. Ava stood behind the curtain, clutching her soft blue ribbon, a huge, radiant smile spreading across her face. She raised her hand and gave a little wave.
Damian broke the kiss and looked up, catching his daughter’s wave. He wrapped his arm around Natalie’s waist, waving back.
They had faced the darkest shadows of Chicago, fought through fear and danger, and built a sanctuary founded on unconditional love, protection, and trust.
