Chapter 7 - The Courage of Love

Julian stepped out onto the mezzanine catwalk, holding a gun, looking down at Natalie with a cruel smile. "Well, well. Damian didn't come himself? He sent the pretty nanny?"

"Damian is transferring the funds right now!" Natalie lied loudly, making sure her voice carried into the glass office where Ava was huddled. "I came to make sure Ava is unharmed before the final transfer!"

From inside the office, Ava’s eyes snapped open. Through the glass, she saw Natalie.

"Natalie..." the little girl whimpered softly, though no one heard her through the storm outside.

"She's fine," Julian sneered, leaning over the railing. "A bit quiet, but she listens better than her father."

"Turn off those lights, Julian!" Natalie demanded, stepping forward despite the guard pointing a weapon at her chest. "She's in sensory overload! You're torturing a child!"

Julian laughed. "She's leverage, sweetheart. Now call Damian and tell him—"

CRASH!

The skylights above the mezzanine shattered into a shower of glass as heavy ropes dropped down. Damian and his elite team descended from the ceiling with tactical precision.

Before Julian’s men could react, flashbangs went off in the lower level, disorienting the guards. Gunfire echoed through the massive warehouse, but Damian didn't shoot toward the office—he moved like a shadow straight for Julian.

"Secure the perimeter!" Viktor shouted below.

Natalie didn't hesitate. While the guards were disoriented by the smoke and noise, she sprinted up the metal stairs toward the mezzanine.

Julian, recovering from the initial shock, turned toward the office door, raising his weapon to use Ava as a human shield. "You think you can outsmart me, DeLuca?!"

"Get away from her!" Natalie roared.

She threw her entire weight against Julian, tackling him from behind just as he reached the door. They crashed onto the metal walkway. The gun skittered across the grate, falling twenty feet to the warehouse floor below.

Julian snarled, grabbing Natalie by her throat and pinning her against the railing. "You crazy bitch—"

A shadow fell over them.

Damian arrived like a force of nature. He grabbed Julian by the collar, tearing him off Natalie, and struck him with a furious, devastating blow that sent the rival mobster crashing unconscious onto the steel deck.

Damian didn't even look at the fallen man. He dropped to his knees beside Natalie, pulling her up. "Are you hurt? Natalie, look at me!"

"I'm okay," she gasped, catching her breath. "Go... get Ava!"
