Part 10: The House That Came Home

Six months later.

The spring sun was in full bloom across Long Island, bathing the manicured lawns and blooming cherry trees in brilliant, golden light. The front gates of the Russo estate stood wide open—not for guards or syndicate associates, but for the local neighborhood children who had finally been invited over for a Saturday afternoon birthday party.

Inside the sprawling kitchen, the air was filled with the sweet scent of vanilla frosting, powdered sugar, and bubbling cocoa.

Mia, now a year older, was standing on a sturdy wooden step stool right beside the kitchen island, enthusiastically spreading pink frosting across a three-tier birthday cake with a spatula that was far too big for her hands.

"More sprinkles, Miss Elena! More sprinkles!" Mia shouted, laughing as Lucia and Valentina dumped an entire cup of rainbow sprinkles onto the top of the cake in a chaotic avalanche.

Elena stood right beside them, wearing a floral apron flour-dusted across the front, laughing as she dodged a stray puff of powdered sugar.

And leaning against the doorframe, watching the scene unfold, was Dominic.

He wasn't wearing a three-piece suit today. He wore a simple linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a light breeze catching his dark hair. A small, genuine, relaxed smile rested on his face—a smile that the underworld would never believe belonged to the most feared boss on the East Coast.

As Elena turned around, wiping her hands on a dish towel, her eyes locked with Dominic across the room.

She walked over to him, stepping out of the noisy, joyful chaos of the kitchen. Dominic wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest in front of the tall windows where the amber afternoon sun poured through, illuminating the crooked purple butterfly still taped securely to the wall.

"You look entirely distracted, Mr. Russo," Elena murmured teasingly, resting her hands against his chest.

"I'm just auditing the kitchen operations," Dominic replied, a low chuckle rumbling in his chest. "Quality control suggests that the head housekeeper is doing an exceptional job."

"Is that so?" Elena smiled, rising slightly onto her tiptoes. "And what does the boss plan to do about it?"

Dominic leaned down, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss to her lips as the sound of his daughters' laughter echoed brightly around them, filling every corner of the house with music that would never fade again.

They had survived the darkness, the grief, and the shadows of a violent world. For the Russo family, the storm had finally passed, and the house had truly come home.
