Chapter 8 - Justice and Accountability

As the weeks turned into months, the transformation of the estate was complete. The cold, sterile luxury that had once defined the mansion gave way to warmth and genuine life.

I established the Martinez Foundation for Worker Rights, a non-profit organization funded by a portion of Vance Global’s corporate profits. The foundation was designed to provide free legal aid, emergency housing assistance, and fair wage advocacy for domestic and low-income workers across the state.

I appointed Elena to the foundation's advisory board, ensuring that the voices of real workers guided every decision and policy the charity made.

One afternoon, I invited Elena and Sophie to my study—the same study where I had once unraveled the paper trail that started it all.

Sophie walked in, looking around at the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and the polished mahogany desk. She wasn't afraid or angry anymore; her posture was confident and happy.

"Mr. David," Sophie said, stepping up to my desk. "Are you still doing complicated business?"

"Always," I smiled, coming out from behind the desk. "But today's business is about you."

I handed her a framed document. It was an official grant letter from the foundation establishing a full university scholarship trust in Sophie Martinez's name, covering her complete education from primary school all the way through medical or law school—whatever path she chose in life.

Elena read the document over her daughter's shoulder and covered her mouth, tears brimming in her eyes. "Mr. Vance... this is too much. We cannot accept this!"

"You can, and you will," I said firmly. "Sophie showed more integrity and courage in thirty seconds than an entire boardroom of executives showed in thirty years. The world needs more people like her, and I'm going to make sure she has every tool she needs to change it."

Sophie looked up at me, her big brown eyes shining. "Does this mean I can become a judge?"

May you like

"You can become whatever you want," I said. "And if anyone ever tries to lie to you or tell you that you can't, you tell them you have an entire team ready to set them straight."

Sophie beamed, throwing her arms around my waist in a tight hug. I hugged her back, feeling a profound sense of peace that no corporate deal or financial victory had ever given me.
