Chapter 7 - The Mastermind Unmasked

The downfall of Julian Vance sent shockwaves through the financial world, but for me, the true work was just beginning. Over the following weeks, my legal team dismantled the web of corruption Julian had built within the family corporation.
Arthur Whitmore, having cooperated fully with the investigation and returned his ill-gotten kickbacks, received a suspended sentence and community service, forever barred from property management. Julian faced the full weight of the law, receiving a significant prison sentence and forfeiting his shares in Vance Global Enterprises to pay court-ordered restitution to all victims.
With Julian gone, I assumed full control of the family foundation. But I had no intention of running things the way they had been run in the past.
One Saturday afternoon, a month after the boardroom confrontation, I held a gathering at the Beverly Hills estate. The grand gates were opened wide, and the air was filled with music, laughter, and the mouth-watering aroma of an outdoor barbecue.
This was not a networking event for billionaires or politicians. It was a celebration for the domestic staff, their families, and the community members who had suffered under the old regime.
Children were running across the manicured lawns that had once been strictly off-limits. Among them was Sophie, wearing a bright yellow sundress, her laugh ringing out clear and joyful as she played tag with the groundskeeper's children.
I stood on the patio holding a glass of iced tea, watching the scene unfold.
Elena approached me, carrying two plates of delicious, homemade empanadas. "Mr. Vance," she said with a warm, genuine smile. "Please, you must eat."
"Thank you, Elena," I said, taking a plate. "How are things at the new apartment?"
"It is wonderful," she said, her eyes shining with emotion. "It is close to Sophie's school, safe, and for the first time in my life, I am not worried about tomorrow. I can never thank you enough for what you did."
"You don't need to thank me," I told her. "You and Sophie saved this house. If she hadn't stopped me in that hallway, I might have gone on for years oblivious to the evil happening right under my roof."

"She is very stubborn," Elena chuckled, looking over at her daughter. "Like her grandmother."
"She is brave," I corrected softly. "And that bravery changed everything."
