Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The morning sun of December 25 rose over Overland Park in a brilliant display of gold and diamond light reflecting off the fresh blanket of Christmas snow.

Corinne stood by the kitchen window, holding a mug of steaming coffee, watching the light catch the frosted branches of the oak tree in the front yard. The house was quiet, filled with the peaceful stillness of a family that had survived the storm and emerged unbreakable.

Footsteps padded softly down the hallway.

A moment later, four-year-old Casey came running into the kitchen, her face lit up with absolute excitement, holding the teddy bear with the tiny Santa hat tightly in one hand.

"Mommy! Mommy, wake up! Santa came!" Casey squealed, tugging excitedly at Corinne’s pant leg.

Corinne set her coffee mug down, dropped to her knees with a wide, radiant smile, and scooped her daughter up into her arms, spinning her around as Casey erupted into bright, joyful laughter that echoed through every room of the house.

"Let's go see what he left under the tree," Corinne laughed, carrying her daughter toward the living room where the glittering tree stood proudly beneath a sky of winter blue.

There were no shadows left in the house. There were no locked doors, no forged documents, and no fear. There was only family, light, and an endless horizon of tomorrows.

Corinne Hardy had fought battles across the globe, but her greatest victory had been won right here—reclaiming her home, protecting her daughter, and securing a future filled with peace, love, and a truly happy ending.
