Chapter 6 - The Setup at the Grand Harbor

The Grand Harbor Hotel was the crown jewel of Grayhaven’s elite—a soaring fifty-story tower of glass and steel overlooking the bay, owned entirely by Caldwell Development.

At 7:45 PM, the hotel’s opulent marble lobby was bustling with wealthy patrons, politicians, and high-society figures attending the annual Caldwell Maritime Gala. Crystal chandeliers cast brilliant light across the room, while string quartets played softly in the background.

Marcus Caldwell stood near the balcony of the grand ballroom on the top floor, sipping champagne and greeting city officials. Beneath his charismatic smile lay a desperate, cornered predator. He knew that if Ethan reached the federal authorities, his entire empire would crumble overnight.

Suddenly, his chief security officer approached, leaning in close. "Sir, a package just arrived at the front desk. For you."

Marcus’s eyes narrowed. "What is it?"

"A leather book, sir. Matching the description."

Marcus felt a surge of triumph. He pushed past his security guard and walked briskly toward his private office on the penthouse suite. "Where is Ethan?"

"We haven't spotted him yet, sir. But a woman matching Claire Whitaker’s description was seen entering the main lobby five minutes ago."

Marcus smiled, a chilling expression. "She came to trade it for her boss's freedom. Idiots. Both of them."

Marcus entered his penthouse office, locking the heavy mahogany door behind him. On his massive glass desk lay the oilskin wrapper. He rushed forward, tearing open the twine, and pulled out the leather-bound ledger.

He flipped open the cover—and froze.

The pages were completely blank.

Inside the front cover, written in bold black ink, was a simple message:

“Numbers never lie. Neither does the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

Before Marcus could react, the heavy glass doors leading to his private balcony shattered inward.

Ethan Caldwell stepped into the room, wearing a sharp black suit, flanked by Titan. Behind him, breaking through the main hallway doors, were dozens of armed federal agents wearing blue jackets stamped with "FBI" in gold lettering.

"Marcus Caldwell!" shouted Special Prosecutor Vance, stepping into the room with her weapon drawn. "Put your hands where we can see them! You are under arrest for federal smuggling, extortion, and the murder of Arthur Whitaker!"

Marcus backed away, his face turning pale as paper. "Ethan... you fool! You ruined our family's legacy!"

"No, Uncle," Ethan said coldly, walking toward him. "You ruined it ten years ago when you killed an innocent man to cover your greed. I'm just cleaning up the trash."

Marcus reached frantically into his jacket for a hidden revolver, but Titan let out a deafening bark and charged, tackling Marcus to the floor before he could clear his holster. Federal agents swarmed the fallen tycoon, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

As Marcus was dragged out of his penthouse in front of dozens of news cameras and high-society guests, Claire stepped out from behind the federal tactical team. She looked Marcus dead in the eye as he passed her.

"My father's name was Arthur Whitaker," she said clearly, her voice carrying across the silent room. "And today, the whole world knows what you did to him."

Marcus could only stare at her in silent, defeated horror as he was escorted into the waiting elevator.
