Chapter 10 - The Brightest Light

Ten years later.

The Vance Estate was once again glowing with Christmas lights, but the silence of the past was entirely gone.

Zelda, now sixteen, stood in the grand living room, adjusting a beautiful painting she had created on an easel. It was a stunning landscape of a stone church bathed in a warm, golden sunrise, with two small girls walking hand-in-hand toward a waiting home. Her talent had flourished, and her sketches were now vibrant, confident expressions of her life.

Cara ran into the room, laughing, her hair bouncing as she carried a tray of freshly baked gingerbread cookies. She was the life of the house, a star athlete at her school, her past anxiety completely replaced by boundless energy and joy.

Arthur watched them from the doorway. His hair was streaked with gray now, but his face was lined with deep, happy smile lines. He walked over and wrapped his arms around both of his daughters.

"It's beautiful, Zel," Arthur said, looking at the painting.

"I wanted to remember where we started," Zelda said, leaning her head against his shoulder. "And how lucky we were that you stopped."

"I was the lucky one," Arthur whispered, his heart overflowing.

They stood together by the window, looking out over the snow-covered grounds. The world outside was cold, but inside the Vance home, there was nothing but warmth, laughter, and a love that had proven itself stronger than any storm. The quietest emergency had led to the loudest, brightest joy, and they knew that whatever the future held, they would always face it together.
