Chapter 9 - Promises Kept
The wedding was small and intimate, held right on the lawn where two years prior, shattered glass had marked the darkest day of Ethan’s life. Today, the driveway was lined with blooming white roses and green garlands.
Lily served as the maid of honor, looking proud in her yellow dress. Maria sat in the front row alongside her daughter, treated as an honored member of the family.
When Ethan and Elena exchanged vows, Ethan turned to Lily and Maria, acknowledging them in front of all their guests.
“True family isn't defined by blood or legal titles,” Ethan spoke, his voice filled with emotion. “It’s defined by who stands beside you when the world catches fire. Maria gave my daughter her life back. Elena gave us a future. I am the richest man in the world today—not because of what’s in my bank account, but because of who is standing on this lawn.”

Maria knelt down, wiping a happy tear from her eye. “You are my little princess, Lily. Always.”
