The reception music swelled into a joyous, upbeat melody as guests filled the dance floor, laughing, dancing, and celebrating a new chapter of peace and happiness for the Callahan family.
Outside, the cool night air drifted off the Hudson River, carrying the gentle scent of autumn leaves and river water. The immense stone mansion stood tall and majestic against the dark night sky, no longer a fortress guarded by suspicion and fear, but a true home filled with warmth, laughter, and unbreakable love.
Inside the grand library, away from the bustling crowd, little Maisie sat comfortably in the oversized leather armchair, coloring another picture while Noah showed her how to mix watercolor paints on a palette.
Elena walked in quietly, holding two cups of hot spiced cider. She handed one to Declan, who was standing by the large bay window, watching the river sparkle under the moonlight.
Declan took a sip of the cider, then wrapped his arm around Elena’s waist, pulling her close against his side. She leaned her head comfortably against his shoulder, letting out a soft sigh of contentment.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mr. Callahan?” Elena asked softly with a playful smile.
Declan looked down at her, his dark eyes filled with a deep, abiding warmth and absolute devotion.
“I was just thinking,” Declan murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head, “about how lucky I am that a three-year-old housekeeper’s daughter decided to save my life three years ago.”
“She’s a very smart girl,” Elena laughed softly. “She gets it from her mother.”
