Chapter 7 - Sparks of Healing

The estate rescue team, alerted by the sudden storm, found them thirty minutes later. Marcus was rushed to the hospital with a concussion and a fractured shoulder. Emily, though physically unharmed, was deeply shaken.

As she sat by Marcus’s hospital bed, watching his slow, rhythmic breathing, Emily made a decision. She called her father and her primary neurologist, Dr. Sterling.

“I want to start the intensive rehabilitation therapy again,” Emily announced, her voice trembling but resolute. “The one we gave up on two years ago because it was too painful.”

Dr. Sterling looked at her gently. “Emily, that therapy requires an immense amount of physical and mental endurance. It will be the hardest thing you’ve ever done.”

“I don’t care,” Emily said, clutching Marcus’s hand, which was wrapped in bandages. “He didn’t give up on me when I was a stranger. I’m not going to give up on myself anymore.”

When Marcus woke up the next day, the first thing he saw was Emily smiling at him.

“I’m going to walk again, Marcus,” she told him, tears shining in her eyes. “And when I do, we are going to walk down to that lake together, on our own two feet.”
