Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the iron gates of the Moretti estate no longer felt like the entrance to a fortress.

They felt like home.

The heavy stone mansion in Westchester County was no longer filled with cold silence and shadows. Instead, the sound of laughter echoed through the high-ceilinged hallways—the bright, infectious laughter of two six-year-old girls playing tag near the grand staircase.

Noah, Caleb, and Miles chased little Lily around the sprawling living room, while Lily shrieked with joyful laughter, holding a plastic crown over her head like a trophy.

“No fair! You’re using the shortcut behind the sofa!” Noah yelled playfully, diving after her.

Sitting on the plush leather sectional, Claire laughed as she poured two cups of fresh coffee. She handed one to the man sitting beside her.

Adrian took the mug, his arm wrapping comfortably around Claire’s shoulders, pulling her close against his side. He looked happier, lighter, the perpetual dark circles under his eyes replaced by the quiet contentment of a man who finally had everything that mattered right where it belonged.

“You know,” Adrian murmured, pressing a soft kiss to the top of Claire’s head, “the agency called me last week. They wanted to know if I needed another nanny.”

Claire grinned, resting her head against his shoulder as she watched Lily and the triplets build an elaborate fortress out of couch cushions across the room.

“And what did you tell them?” she asked teasingly.

Adrian smiled, his gray eyes crinkling at the corners as he tightened his arm around her.

“I told them we’re permanently fully staffed,” Adrian replied softly. “And that the best decision I ever made in my entire life walked through my front gates in the pouring rain, carrying thirty-seven dollars and a thrift-store suitcase.”

Claire laughed, turning into his embrace and pressing a kiss to his cheek.

Outside, the sun shone brightly over the Westchester hills, casting a warm, golden light across the estate, promising a future built not on walls and fear, but on family, forgiveness, and love that lasted a lifetime.
