Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Later that afternoon, Leah bundled Leo into his stroller and walked out into the sun-drenched park near her apartment complex.
The sky above was a brilliant, cloudless blue—not the terrifying, hyper-real expanse from her nightmare, but a normal, welcoming spring sky filled with life and possibility. Pigeons cooed near the walking paths, and the distant sound of children laughing drifted across the green lawns.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out to find a text message from Simone, who was currently lounging at an actual, legitimate wellness resort in the Mediterranean. The message contained a photograph of the crystal-clear ocean and a short, cheeky caption: “Turns out the water is much nicer when you aren’t running from corporate sharks. Enjoy your freedom, mama.”
Leah smiled, typing back a brief reply before slipping the phone away.
She stopped the stroller near the edge of a quiet, winding creek that flowed through the center of the park. The water rippled gently over smooth stones, catching the golden afternoon sunlight in bright, dancing sparks.

Leah leaned over the stroller, gently brushing a soft lock of dark hair from her son’s forehead as his tiny eyes fluttered open, blinking sleepily into the light.
“Look at that, Leo,” she whispered softly, her heart swelling with a deep, unbreakable peace as she looked out toward the horizon where the path ahead stretched wide, clear, and entirely her own. “We’re home.”
