Chapter 5 - Confrontation at Midnight

Armed with the horrifying truth, Rodrigo did not hesitate. He left two of his most trusted security officers to guard Marina and Valeria, promising them total protection and a reward that would change their lives forever.
He ordered his driver to head straight to Viviana’s luxury penthouse in the exclusive Polanco district. As the car sped through the city, Rodrigo called his chief of security, a former federal investigator named Marcos.
"Marcos, I need a quiet extraction. Viviana Acevedo. Don't go through the police yet; she has judges in her pocket. Bring the digital forensics team to her penthouse. I want her financial records, her recent travels, and whatever chemical compound she bought off the dark web."
By the time Rodrigo arrived at the sleek, glass-and-steel skyscraper, Marcos and four imposing men were already waiting in the lobby. The building security, recognizing Rodrigo as the primary shareholder of the development group, didn't dare block their path.
They took the private elevator straight to the top floor. Marcos bypassed the electronic lock on Viviana's door with practiced ease. The penthouse was dark, filled with minimalist furniture and the distinct, cloying scent of expensive roses.
A light snapped on in the master bedroom. Viviana stepped out, wearing a silk robe, a glass of wine in her hand. Her green eyes widened in flash of panic before she quickly masked it with an expression of aristocratic arrogance.
"Rodrigo? What is the meaning of this? Breaking into my home in the middle of the night?"
Rodrigo walked up to her, his face a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. He grabbed her right wrist, pulling back the silk sleeve to reveal the distinct, silver crescent-shaped scar.
"You poisoned my son," Rodrigo said, his voice dangerously calm, vibrating with a lethal energy. "You paid Elena to expose him to a rare toxin. You tracked down the only known antidote in Oaxaca and tried to destroy it. You wanted my son dead so you could claim the inheritance."
Viviana tried to pull away, her face twisting into an ugly sneer. "You're insane. Grief has broken your mind, Rodrigo. The boy is dying of a rare genetic disease. The doctors said so themselves. You have no proof."
"We do now," Marcos said, walking out of her home office holding a sleek laptop and a small, secure vial containing a dark, oily residue. "Our forensics team bypassed your deleted files. We found the cryptocurrency transaction to a laboratory in Eastern Europe for a synthetic compound called Viper-X. And we found the remaining vial hidden in your safe."
Viviana’s face drained of color. The wine glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the marble floor.
"He was never supposed to suffer," she whispered, her arrogance completely collapsing into pathetic desperation. "The asset distribution... it wasn't fair. Your father left everything to Pedrito. Everything!"

"Where is the formula for the toxin?" Rodrigo roared, gripping her shoulders. "The doctors need the exact chemical composition to treat him! Give it to me!"
"There is no chemical cure!" Viviana laughed hysterically, tears streaming down her face. "The laboratory designed it to be irreversible! Once it binds to the cells, it's over! In three days, your son will be gone, Rodrigo! You win the company, but you lose the boy!"
