Chapter 9 - Reclaiming the Truth

An hour later, the storm began to clear, letting moonlight wash through the tall stained-glass windows of the grand foyer.

Sophia stood at the top of the marble staircase, trembling as she saw Aleandro walking up toward her. Behind him, a sleek black SUV pulled into the circle drive. The doors opened, and a young woman with dark hair and Sophia's exact eyes stepped out, wrapped in a warm blanket, escorted by Aleandro’s trusted men.

"Maya!" Sophia sobbed, running down the stairs.

The two sisters collided at the base of the staircase, weeping uncontrollably and clinging to each other in overwhelming relief. Maya was safe, healthy, and finally free from the nightmare that had bound them both for years.

Aleandro stood back near the grand entrance, watching the reunion with a soft, quiet smile. Beside him, little Emma stood holding her mother Clara’s hand, clutching her drawing notebook.

Sophia turned away from her sister and walked slowly toward Aleandro. Tears glistened on her cheeks, but for the first time in three years, the weight of fear was gone from her eyes.

"You saved her," Sophia whispered, her voice choking with emotion. "After all the lies, after everything I kept from you..."

"You were protecting family," Aleandro said gently, taking both of her hands into his—the same hands he had watched under the linen table, now warm and free. "You never betrayed me, Sophia. You sacrificed your own happiness to keep the people you loved alive. That makes you more worthy of the Moretti name than anyone I’ve ever known."

He pulled her into a deep, tender embrace as the morning sun began to break through the clouds, casting golden light across the estate.
