Chapter 8 - The Trap Unleashed

Victor’s face turned pale as ash. The web he had spent five years weaving had collapsed in a single night, undone by a child's watchful eyes and the fierce loyalty of a housekeeper he had consistently overlooked.
Aleandro picked up Victor’s phone from the floor. "Where is Maya being held? Give me the exact location and the passcode to disarm the explosive, and I’ll let you walk to a courtroom instead of a shallow grave."
Victor gritted his teeth, realizing his leverage was completely gone. "Sector 4, abandoned meatpacking plant on 5th Street, Chicago. Code is 0-4-9-2."
Aleandro immediately dialed his tactical strike team stationed in Chicago—a private unit he had kept secret even from Victor. Within four minutes, the commander on the line confirmed: “Target secured. Maya is safe, unharmed, and in our custody. The explosives are disarmed.”
Aleandro lowered the phone. He looked down at Victor, the man who had been like an uncle to him, now reduced to a pathetic traitor lying on the floor.

"Take him away," Aleandro ordered the loyal guards. "Hand him over to the federal authorities along with the financial ledgers in his office. Let him spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security cell thinking about his failure."
As Victor was dragged out, screaming curses into the rain-drenched night, the mansion finally fell quiet. The shadow that had hung over the Moretti estate for years had been permanently lifted.
