Part 4 – Blood, Betrayal, and Truth

The red warning light flashed across every monitor in the underground bunker.
A sharp alarm echoed through the command center.
Every guard instinctively reached for their weapon.
Dominic Hayes was already standing before the central computer before the second alarm sounded.
"Talk to me."
One of the analysts looked up, his face drained of color.
"Someone just attempted to access our external surveillance system."
"Did they get in?"
"Only for three seconds."
Dominic's jaw tightened.
"Three seconds is enough."
Jasper entered the room moments later.
"What happened?"
"We've been found."
Silence spread across the command center.
Meredith felt her stomach sink.
Phoebe looked up from her coloring book, confused by the sudden tension.
"Daddy?"
Jasper immediately softened his expression.
"It's alright, Princess."
But everyone in the room knew he was lying.
The Hidden Traitor
Dominic replayed the security logs on the largest screen.
"No forced intrusion."
"No malware."
"No broken firewall."
Jasper narrowed his eyes.
"So?"
Dominic looked directly at him.
"Someone inside the bunker opened the door."
Meredith felt chills run down her spine.
"There...there's a traitor?"
Dominic nodded.
"Our location has never been discovered."
"Not once."
"For someone to find us..."
"...they had help."
The room fell silent.
Jasper slowly looked around.
Every guard.
Every technician.
Every employee.
These people had served the Blackwood family for years.
Yet one of them had betrayed him.
A Child's Memory
While the adults argued over security reports, Phoebe quietly tugged Meredith's sleeve.
"Meri..."
"What is it, sweetheart?"
Phoebe pointed toward one of the computer screens.
"The bad lady."
Meredith frowned.
"What?"
Phoebe stared at the paused surveillance image.
A blurry woman wearing sunglasses had been captured outside Blackwood Manor earlier that morning.
Phoebe's little voice trembled.
"She talked to Miss Gigi."
Every adult froze.
Jasper crouched beside his daughter.
"Are you sure?"
Phoebe nodded immediately.
"I saw them."
"They thought I was sleeping."
Dominic exchanged a glance with Jasper.
Children often noticed details adults ignored.
"Can you draw her?"
Phoebe smiled proudly.
"I can!"
Within ten minutes...
Colored pencils covered the table.
Phoebe carefully sketched a woman with silver earrings shaped like snakes.
Dominic's expression suddenly changed.
"I know those earrings."
Jasper looked up.
"Who?"
Dominic answered quietly.
"Bianca Russo."
Meredith had never heard the name.
Dominic explained.
"Professional identity broker."
"She creates new lives for criminals."
Jasper immediately understood.
"She helped Genevieve become Genevieve."
Dominic nodded.
"And if Bianca is involved..."
"...then Genevieve planned this years before meeting you."
Meredith's Secret
Hours later...
Meredith stood alone in the bunker kitchen making tea.
She jumped slightly when Jasper entered.
"You couldn't sleep either?"
She smiled weakly.
"No."
Neither spoke for several moments.
Finally Jasper broke the silence.
"My investigators found something."
Meredith's hands stopped moving.
"My past?"
He nodded.
"You grew up in Saint Anne's Children's Home."
Meredith looked away.
"Yes."
"You left when you were eighteen."
"Yes."
"You never found your parents."
"No."
Jasper hesitated.
"You've been alone ever since."
Meredith slowly nodded.
"I learned a long time ago..."
"...family isn't always the people who give birth to you."
She looked toward the hallway where Phoebe's laughter echoed.
"Sometimes..."
"...family is the people who choose to stay."
Jasper remained silent.
Those words settled deeply inside him.
The Truth About Evelyn
Dominic burst into the room carrying another folder.
"Boss."
Jasper immediately stood.
"What is it?"
"We reopened Mrs. Blackwood's medical records."
Meredith looked confused.
"Evelyn?"
Dominic nodded.
"There are inconsistencies."
Jasper's face turned pale.
"What kind?"
"The dosage."
"The medication she received after the accident..."
"...doesn't match the hospital records."
The room became completely silent.
Meredith whispered,
"Are you saying..."
Dominic finished the sentence.
"Someone tampered with Evelyn's treatment."
Jasper felt the world tilt beneath his feet.
"No..."
Dominic placed another document on the table.
"The doctor who signed the release papers..."
"...worked with Malcolm Vale."
Every memory rushed back at once.
Evelyn had survived the accident.
She had even spoken to him.
She was recovering.
Then suddenly...
Without warning...
Her condition had worsened overnight.
The doctors had called it a tragic complication.
Jasper had believed them.
Now...
For the first time in four years...
He wondered if his wife had truly died naturally.
Genevieve Makes Her Move
Across the city...
Genevieve sat calmly inside a luxury penthouse.
Bianca Russo entered carrying a tablet.
"The bunker location is confirmed."
Genevieve smiled.
"And Jasper?"
"Still inside."
"What about the nanny?"
"She's with them."
Genevieve slowly stood.
"Good."
Bianca frowned.
"You aren't attacking?"
Genevieve shook her head.
"No."
"Why?"
"Because Jasper Blackwood is most dangerous when cornered."
She walked toward the window overlooking the city.
"We'll make him come to us."
Bianca smiled.
"How?"
Genevieve turned around.
"By taking something he refuses to lose."
A New Threat
Back inside the bunker...
One of the analysts suddenly shouted.
"Boss!"
Everyone rushed toward the monitors.
Every Blackwood company server displayed the same message.
I KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT EVELYN.
MEET ME TOMORROW.
COME ALONE.
No signature.
No location.
Only a timer counting down.
23 hours.
59 minutes.
58 seconds.
Meredith looked at Jasper.
"It's a trap."
"I know."
"So don't go."
Jasper stared at the screen.
"If someone knows what really happened to Evelyn..."
"...I have to."
Meredith stepped closer.
"You could die."
He met her eyes.
"I've lived four years believing my wife died because fate was cruel."
His voice grew quieter.
"But if someone murdered her..."
He clenched his fists.
"...then I've already waited four years too long."
Meredith wanted to argue.
Instead...
She simply nodded.
"I won't let you face it alone."
Jasper looked at her for several seconds.
Then, for the first time since they met...
He reached out.
His hand gently rested over hers.
"You already saved my daughter."
"You don't owe me anything else."
Meredith smiled softly.
"I know."
"I'm staying anyway."
For the first time in years...
Jasper Blackwood wasn't facing the darkness alone.
But neither of them noticed...
From a hidden camera buried inside an air vent...
A tiny green light blinked once.
Someone...
May you like
Was watching every move they made.
