Chapter 9 - Dawn After the Storm

One year later.
The grand cathedral in downtown Manhattan was filled with soft candlelight and the scent of white roses.
There were no men in dark glasses scanning the aisles with hidden weapons. There were no hushed whispers of gang wars or territorial disputes. The Costa name had been fully cleansed, replaced by the reputation of the Costa Foundation—a multi-million-dollar charitable organization dedicated to funding pediatric heart surgeries and building children's medical centers across the country.
At the front of the altar stood Damian, dressed in a sharp, elegant navy tuxedo. Standing proudly beside him as his best man was seven-year-old Leo, looking handsome in his matching small suit, holding the ring box with extreme care.
The organ began to play a soft, triumphant melody.
The heavy wooden doors at the back of the cathedral opened.
Maya walked down the aisle, radiant in a simple, elegant ivory silk gown. The faint trace of the scar above her left eyebrow was still visible—a subtle mark of her bravery—but her face was luminous with happiness.

Maya chuckled, touching Leo’s cheek softly before turning to face Damian.
The priest spoke words of love, resilience, and rebirth. When it came time for the vows, Damian took Maya’s hands in his.
"Maya," Damian said, his voice ringing clear through the high vaulted arches. "You stood in the dark and fought for my family when we were strangers. Today, I promise to stand by you in the light, to protect your heart as fiercely as you protected mine, and to love you through every dawn we are given."
Maya smiled, tears glistening in her eyes. "Damian, you gave me a reason to breathe when I thought my life was over. You and Leo gave me a home, a purpose, and a love deeper than I ever dreamed possible. I am yours, completely and forever."

"With this ring," Leo said proudly, handing the gold band up to his father, "you are officially my mom now!"
The congregation laughed softly, and as Damian slid the ring onto Maya's finger, he pulled her into a warm, passionate embrace, kissing his bride as the bells of the cathedral began to chime.
