Chapter 10 - The Empire We Built

One year later, the cliffside mansion on the Pacific coast looked entirely different.
The heavy iron security gates were still there, and the guards still patrolled the lower terraces. But the atmosphere of isolation and fear had completely vanished. The master guest suite no longer had an outside lock on the heavy oak door; the deadbolt had been permanently removed, replaced by polished brass fittings that gleamed in the afternoon sunlight.
Downstairs, the living room doors stood wide open to the ocean breeze, letting the sound of the crashing waves drift gently through the house.
On the wide veranda overlooking the Pacific, a small, elegant ceremony was taking place.
There were no mob bosses in attendance. There were no shady syndicate lieutenants, no offshore bankers, and no armed guards standing watch with paranoid glances.
Just Clara, standing by with a soft smile and a handkerchief in her hand; Roman, looking remarkably respectable in a tailored charcoal suit; and a handful of trusted colleagues from the legitimate global logistics firm that the syndicate had officially evolved into.
And standing beneath a simple archway of white roses were Vincent Cole and Morgan Willis.
Morgan wore a sleek, elegant ivory silk dress that moved effortlessly in the coastal wind, her hair no longer pinned back in a severe bun, but cascading down her shoulders in soft, natural waves.
Vincent stood beside her, wearing a sharp black tuxedo, his dark eyes fixed entirely on her with a depth of devotion that completely eclipsed the hardened mafia boss he used to be.
“Do you, Morgan Willis, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to share in your triumphs, to balance your ledgers, and to stand by your side through every storm?” the officiant asked gently.
Morgan looked up at Vincent, a soft, radiant smile touching her lips.
“I do,” she said clearly, her voice ringing out over the sound of the Pacific waves.
“And do you, Vincent Cole, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to share your life, your empire, and your heart, forsaking all others so long as you both shall live?”
Vincent didn’t look away from her eyes for a single second.
“I do,” he said, his voice deep, steady, and filled with a lifetime of absolute certainty.
“With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Vincent didn't wait for the final word. He pulled Morgan gently into his arms, his lips meeting hers in a deep, passionate kiss that washed away every shadow of their past.
Applause erupted from Clara and the small group of guests. Clara openly dabbed at her eyes with the handkerchief, muttering something about blessed unions and stubborn fools finally seeing the light.
Later that evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the Pacific sky in brilliant shades of gold, crimson, and violet, Vincent and Morgan stood together on the upper balcony of the master suite.
The glass doors were wide open. The ocean breeze carried the clean, salty scent of the sea.
Vincent wrapped his arms gently around Morgan’s waist from behind, resting his chin softly on her shoulder as she looked out over the water.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Cole,” Vincent whispered against her ear.
Morgan leaned back against his chest, smiling as she placed her hands over his.
“I was just thinking about the day you locked me in this room,” Morgan murmured, her voice carrying a playful lilt. “You really thought you could break me, didn’t you?”
Vincent chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.
“I was an arrogant fool,” Vincent admitted without a single trace of hesitation. “I thought I was locking a captive in a cage.”
Morgan turned slightly in his arms, looking up at him with a triumphant, loving sparkle in her eyes.
“And instead?” she asked softly.
“Instead,” Vincent whispered, pulling her closer against his heart, “you broke the lock, took over the empire, and stole my entire world.”
May you like
Morgan smiled, resting her head against his chest as the stars began to emerge across the velvet night sky above the Pacific.
“And we lived,” Morgan whispered, “happily ever after.”
