Chapter 5 - The Strike at Bel-Air

At 2:00 AM, the estate was bathed in heavy silence. I sat in Ethan’s room, holding his small hand while he slept peacefully. Outside the double doors, two massive guards kept vigil, while down in the subterranean garage, engines roared to life.

Adrian was clad in tactical charcoal gear, a Kevlar vest strapped tightly across his broad chest, checking the action on a silenced sidearm. Marcus stood beside him, adjusting a tactical headset.

"The San Pedro distraction is underway, Boss," Marcus reported. " Leo Vane has already panicked and called Julian for reinforcement. Julian has dispatched sixty percent of his personal security detail from Bel-Air to help his brother."

"Perfect," Adrian said, sliding a magazine into his weapon with a sharp click. "He thinks the battle is in San Pedro. Let's show him his home is the graveyard."

Three blacked-out SUVs slipped quietly out of the hidden subterranean exit, cutting off their lights as they merged onto the dark winding roads leading toward Bel-Air.

Inside the primary vehicle, Adrian sat motionless, his mind razor-focused. Seven years of longing, rage, and guilt had compressed into a single, terrifying resolve. He wasn't just fighting for his territory or his name anymore; he was fighting for the boy lying in his guest bedroom and the woman who had spent seven years carrying the burden of protection alone.

The Vane compound in Bel-Air was a ten-acre estate surrounded by wrought-iron fences and state-of-the-art motion sensors. But Adrian had spent months preparing for an eventual war with Vane—long before Ethan had been targeted. He knew every blind spot in their security network.

At 2:35 AM, the power grid to the entire Bel-Air ridge went dark.

Backup generators kicked on at the Vane estate, but in those critical twelve seconds of blackout, Adrian’s team cleared the perimeter wall. Silent, lethal, and perfectly synchronized, they dropped the outer guard posts without firing a single unsilenced shot.

Inside the sprawling mansion, Julian Vane stood in his study, pouring a glass of scotch with trembling hands. The news from San Pedro was chaos—explosions, radio interference, zero clear intelligence.

"Where are the perimeter guards?" Julian barked into his satellite phone. "Why hasn't Leo confirmed the target?"

The heavy double oak doors of his study didn't burst open with an explosion. They simply swung open smoothly, revealing a towering figure framed by the dark hallway behind him.

Julian dropped his glass. It shattered on the marble floor, dark amber liquid spreading like blood.

"Adrian," Julian gasped, reaching frantically for the silver revolver resting on his mahogany desk.

Before his fingers could even graze the steel, a single, muffled shot rang out. The bullet struck Julian’s hand, shattering his wrist and pinning his hand to the desk. Julian shrieked in agony, falling to his knees as blood splattered across his expensive rug.

Adrian stepped into the room, his weapon lowered, his expression completely void of mercy. Marcus followed behind, holding a heavy leather briefcase.

"You should have fought me like a man, Julian," Adrian said, his voice ringing through the quiet room like a funeral bell. "You should have targeted my shipping lines. You should have attacked my convoys. You should have met me in the streets."

Adrian stepped forward, his heavy tactical boot coming down on Julian’s wounded hand, pressing down just enough to make the older man scream until his voice blew out.

"Instead," Adrian continued chillingly, "you used an aerosolized biological agent on a seven-year-old child on an elementary school playground."

"He... he is a Blackwood!" Julian sobbed, choking on his own breath, sweat pouring down his face. "He is your blood! He was an asset... a target! It's business, Adrian! It's just business!"

"No," Adrian said, bending down until his face was inches from Julian’s terrified eyes. "My business is money and power. My family is sacred. You made a fatal mistake, Julian. You confused my patience with weakness."

Adrian nodded to Marcus, who opened the briefcase on the desk. Inside was a tablet connected to a secure international bank transfer network.

"You are going to sign over every asset, every account, every square inch of property owned by the Vane Syndicate to a blind trust set up in my son's name," Adrian ordered softly. "And then, Julian, you are going to answer for every drop of blood he spilled today."

"You... you can't take everything!" Julian wept, clutching his bleeding wrist. "The Syndicate council will kill you! They won't allow a monopoly!"

"The council is currently watching live feeds of your brother's compound in San Pedro burning to ash," Adrian whispered. "They have already voted to stay out of my way. Sign the papers, Julian. Or I bring my son’s medical report in here and let you bleed out at the exact same rate he did."

Trembling, terrified, and broken, Julian Vane used his left hand to enter his biometrics into the tablet. With every click, a billion-dollar empire built on corruption was systematically dismantled and transferred into a fortress trust for Ethan Blackwood.

When the transfer cleared with a green chime, Julian looked up, pale and gasping. "It's done... it's all done... please, Adrian. Let me live. I'll leave the country. You'll never see me again."

Adrian stood up, pulling a clean linen handkerchief from his pocket and slowly wiping a speck of blood from his cheek.

"I promised my wife I wouldn't let my son live in fear," Adrian said softly.

Julian’s eyes widened in realization. "Wait—no! Adrian, please—!"

Adrian didn't look back as he turned and walked toward the exit of the study.

Behind him, Marcus raised his weapon. A single, quiet sound echoed through the high-ceilinged room, followed by the heavy silence of an empire falling.
