Chapter 8 - The Aftermath and Healing

The weeks following Evelyn’s arrest felt like waking up from a long, suffocating nightmare.
The corporate board of Caldwell Meridian Group, upon learning the full extent of Evelyn’s coercion and illegal activities, unanimously voted to strip her of all executive powers and voting shares. I assumed full, undisputed control of the company, immediately restructuring the board and placing family welfare and ethical transparency at the core of our corporate charter.
Dr. Vance and the two private guards faced multiple felony charges with no possibility of bail, and the state prosecutors built an airtight case against them.
At Caldwell House, the heavy, oppressive gloom that had hung over the estate for decades seemed to lift with every passing day. We threw open the windows of the west wing, letting the autumn sunlight flood into the rooms where fear once lived.
Grace spent her days recovering in our master bedroom overlooking the gardens, surrounded by fresh flowers, sunlight, and the soft cooing of our son, whom we named Leo Alexander Caldwell.
Every evening, after I finished reviewing the restructured corporate portfolios from my home office, I would walk down the quiet hallway, step into the nursery, and watch Grace rock Leo to sleep.

The healing took time. Sometimes Grace would wake up in the middle of the night, reaching out in a panic to check if the nursery door was unlocked, and I would hold her tightly until her breathing slowed and she fell back asleep against my chest.
We knew the scars would fade slowly, but we were rebuilding our lives together, brick by brick, on a foundation of absolute honesty and unconditional love.
